Upper Wabash Invasive Network Hosts Second Annual Field Day Event
SICIM Email
The Upper Wabash Invasive Network (UWIN) hosted their second annual Field Day event this year in August at Mississenewa Lake in Peru, Indiana. UWIN, a three-county Cooperative Invasive Species Management Area (CISMA), made up of multiple Natural Resource Conservation Service representatives, local Soil and Water Conservation Districts, Purdue Extension members, and private citizens, worked together to provide a full day of programming. Participants were able to receive continuing education credits for herbicide application (Cat 2, 6, and RT) and learned about specific invasive species and management. The day also included field trips around several areas of the Mississinewa Lake property, with discussions on water quality and watersheds, land management, and invasive species. Breakfast and lunch was included, and cost to attend was $10.
Over 70 people attended, including private landowners, natural resources managers, municipal agencies, and various conservation professionals.
If you are in the area and are interested in attending a future field event, UWIN will be holding a similar workshop at Salamonie Lake in August of 2024 that will also include pollinator plantings information. Contact Teresa Rody, IDNR Upper Wabash Interpretive Services Interpretive Manager, trody@dnr.in.gov for more information and to be notified when registration opens.
