2021 SICIM Annual Partner Meeting
Thursday, March 25th, 2021 - from 8:30 AM - 12:00 EST
The Southern Indiana Cooperative Invasive Management (SICIM) annual meeting will be held as a virtual event on Thursday, March 25th, 2021. The meeting is to be hosted on Zoom, making it possible for more people across the state to attend. The theme of this year’s meeting is “Working Toward Resilience in an Uncertain World”.
The meeting begins at 8:30 AM and will adjourn by noon EST. There will be an update on the Indiana Invasives Initiative project, which is a collaboration between SICIM and the Natural Resource Conservation Service to combat invasive plants, raise public awareness of the devastation they cause, and to generate local efforts by local people using local resources for invasive management. There will also be a discussion on Weed Wrangles, which are popular group events to remove invasive plants from a given area for volunteers interested in making a difference in their public green spaces.
The keynote speaker is John Shuey of The Nature Conservancy in Indiana, speaking on “Conserving Climate Resilience in Indiana and the Midwest.” In light of climate change related concerns, this is a topic that has generated a lot of interest. Learn how protecting ecosystems for native plants can make a difference for our future.
We will hear short inspirational stories from Regional Specialists around the state about how groups work together to control invasives. There will also be awards announcements; including the recipients of grant money for several Cooperative Invasive Species Management Areas (CISMAs) across Indiana who competitively applied for funding for creative projects and activities to control invasives in their areas.
We hope the meeting will be educational and inspiring, and leave those who attend enthused about getting out to do their part to control invasives and educate others.
Register for the annual meeting at by March 23. The meeting is free. A Zoom meeting link will be sent to registrants just prior to the meeting.
