Invasive Management Cooperative of Morgan County
The Invasive Management Cooperative of Morgan County (IMCMC) is the winner of the 2020 Weed Wrangle® Indiana Contest. The goal of this annual contest is to engage partners, obtain event sponsors, and work to increase participation, all in support of managing invasive plants across our state. A total of 11 Counties participated and the winner was selected in a drawing during the 2020 Indiana CISMA Conference held on August 20th.
SICIM and the Indiana Invasives Initiative work to engage citizens to understand the impacts their landscaping decisions have not only on their own properties but on neighboring properties and our cherished green spaces (state parks, national parks, local parks, nature preserves, etc.). 85-87% of the invasive plants that threaten our natural areas are escapes from intentional landscape plantings. These Weed Wrangle® Indiana events are special opportunities for the community to celebrate and protect our native plant communities and the wildlife and natural resources they support.
Many CISMA groups and counties were able to host Weed Wrangle® events over the course of the contest. Participants created flyers and social media posts, involved event sponsors, found clever ways to track their progress, and most important of all, worked to restore habitat throughout the state. Thank you to all Weed Wrangle® hosts and attendees. Congratulations to our 2020 Contest winner IMCMC, who will receive a prize of $500 to support invasive management in Morgan County, as well as 4 hours of hands-on assistance from the Indiana Invasives Initiative, Regional Specialist for their county. We look forward to having everyone join us next year for the launch the 2021 Weed Wrangle® Indiana contest season. Visit our Weed Wrangle® Indiana Contest page to stay up to date.
