This October is Don’t Move Firewood Month
Invasive insects and diseases hide in firewood. Our forests are threatened by nonnative insects and diseases that can kill large numbers of trees. Firewood can be a home to these destructive organisms. New infestations can start if you take firewood with you when you travel. Help to protect your trees, forests, and communities from the threat of invasive species. How you can help:
Leave firewood at home - do not transport it to campgrounds or parks.
Use firewood from local sources or purchase state or federally certified firewood.
If you have already brought firewood, burn it. Do not leave it. Do not take it with you.
Tell your friends not to move firewood.
